Isaiah’s Response
This will be the sign for you, Hezekiah:
This year
you will eat what grows by itself, and the second year what springs from
that. But in the third year sow and
reap, plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
Once more a remnant of the kingdom of Judah will take root below and
bear fruit above. For out of Jerusalem
will come a remnant, and out of Mount Zion a band of survivors. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish
this.
Therefore this is what the Lord says concerning the king of
Assyria:
He will not
enter this city or shoot an arrow here. He will not come before it with shield or
build a siege ramp against it. By the
way that he came he will return; he will not enter this city,” declares the
Lord. “I will defend this city and save
it, for my sake and for the sake of David my servant!”
Then the Angel of the Lord went out and put to death a
hundred and eighty-five thousand in the Assyrian camp. When the people got up
the next morning-there were all the dead bodies! So Sennacherib king of Assyria
broke camp and withdrew. He returned to Nineveh and stayed there.
Isaiah 37:30-37
The
prophet Isaiah comes to King Hezekiah as he is struggling with the ultimatum of
the mighty Assyrian army. The fate of
the Hebrew people hangs in the balance and Hezekiah needs to know whether God
will really stand with them as He did in the stories of old. Would He fight for them as He did for Moses
and Joshua and Gideon and David? Or
would Judah be swept away just as the Northern Kingdom of Israel was only a few
years earlier?
Isaiah
gives a clear message: God will fight your battle for you. The Assyrians may have a powerful army, but
they are nothing in comparison to the might of Heaven. Sennacherib may be a name the induces fear
and trembling among the nations, but his power is dwarfed by the King of Kings. God is coming and will defend His people!
There
is nothing that we face that compares with the might of Heaven. Not bullies.
Not medications. Not IEPs. Not red tape.
Not isolation or insurance or allergies.
Nothing is bigger, nothing is mightier than God. And God?
He sees your child. He knows your
child. He fights for your child because
they are His. Does that mean that
automatic success is guaranteed? Of
course not.
It
does mean, however, that your child never faces their battles alone. They are
not alone when they go in to therapy.
They are not alone when they go in to school. They are not alone when they have to be
restrained. They are not alone when they
are in the hospital bed because God is just that big.
It
does mean that there is literally nothing that is impossible because they have
the God of the Universe on their side. Miracles
of healings are possible. Miracles of
finances are possible. Miracles of relationships
are possible because God is just that big.
It
does mean that if we want God’s attention, we will get our disabled brothers
and sisters and children to intercede for us because His ear is constantly
tuned in to them. Some of the strongest
prayers come from the purest hearts. Our
children may or may not be able to speak, but their hearts are connected to
God’s above and what they care about, He will care about because God is just
that big.
The
God of All loves to perform miracles that benefit His children who face
impossibly long odds….our children being chief among them.
A moment to reflect:
Pray for a miracle for your child today.
